JOHN DEBNEY (Composer)
has combined his classical training with a strong knowledge of contemporary sounds to create a wide range of musical styles. For Cutthroat Island, Debney created a large-scale
score recorded by the 120-piece London Symphony Orchestra along with a six voice choir. That score contrasted sharply with another of the composer's scores for director Peter Hyams'
Sudden Death; and Hyams liked Debney's driving, techno-style score so much that he signed the composer for The Relic.
Debney is equally at home scoring comedies, such as the box office hit Liar Liar, Paulie, Dick, Inspector Gadget and My Favorite Martian.
Debney's recent success follows on the heels of several projects for Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment, which began with the ambitious two-hour Civil War
drama Class of '61 and continued with the heroic theme and orchestral scores for Spielberg's Seaquest DSV (for which Debney won an Emmy for Main Title Theme Music). These led to his first major feature, Amblin's
Little Giants, a kids' football comedy.
Debney's whimsical score for Hocus Pocus led to a three-picture deal at Disney, including an epic western score for White Fang 2: Myth of the White Wolf.
His other assignments have included Jetsons: The Movie, the big-screen adaptation of the popular '60's animated series.
