ANNE V. COATES, A.C.E. (Editor),
one of the industry's most adroit editors, has had an illustrious career spanning many years both in England and in the United States. Last year she received her fifth Academy Award* nomination for her editing of Steven Soderbergh's critically-acclaimed film Out of Sight. The film also earned Coates an A.C.E. nomination from the American Cinema Editors Guild.
The recipient of four additional Academy Award* nominations, Coates received the Oscar for her work on David Lean's masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia. Additionally, she served as supervising editor for the 1989 restoration of Lawrence of Arabia.
Her other Academy Award* nominations were for In the Line of Fire, The Elephant Man and Becket. Coates also received BAFTA nominations for her work on In The Line of Fire, The Elephant Man and Murder on the Orient Express as well as A.C.E. nominations for Lawrence of Arabia, Becket and In The Line of Fire. The latter film also earned Coates the Guild British Film Editors' Golden Scissors Award. Most recently, Coates edited Passion of Mind for director Alain Berliner.
Coates' other film credits include Out to Sea, Striptease, Pontiac Moon, Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, The Horse's Mouth, Tunes of Glory, The Eagle Has Landed, Congo, Chaplin, What About Bob?, I Love You to Death and shared credit on Ragtime and Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. Coates was also the producer/editor on The Medusa Touch.
Born in Reigate, Surrey, England Coates first came to the U.S., where she now lives, to edit the Arnold Schwarzennegger-starrer Raw Deal. She has also been honored with a "Career Achievement Award" from The American Cinema Editors (A.C.E.), BAFTA's "Career Tribute" and the "Crystal Award" as International Woman of the Year from Women In Film.
