President, Universal Pictures Worldwide Home Entertainment Universal Pictures

Eddie Cunningham, based in Los Angeles, is President of Universal Pictures Worldwide Home Entertainment (UPHE), leading the division’s global operations including sales, marketing and distribution. Cunningham is responsible for distributing home entertainment of theatrical titles from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, NBCUniversal’s television properties, and 1440 Entertainment - the division’s original content production group. He also oversees content acquisitions.

With the studio’s record-breaking year of box office hits in 2015, UPHE had a banner year releasing the year’s top titles in home entertainment including Jurassic World, Illumination Entertainment’s Minions, Furious 7, Fifty Shades of Grey, Pitch Perfect 2, Ted 2, and Trainwreck. The division also secured a multi-year contract to handle the sales, marketing and distribution of Paramount’s titles internationally, and added STX Entertainment, Broad Green Pictures, Funimation and Pure Flix to its’ distribution portfolio. The division also won several coveted retail awards including “Walmart Supplier of the Year,” Best Supply Chain Award, and was voted No.1 supplier/partner by the German retail trade for the fifth time in six years.

Previously, Cunningham served as President of Universal Pictures International Entertainment spearheading home entertainment growth opportunities across Europe, Asia and Latin America, including ground-breaking initiatives like the acquisition of Geneon in Japan that elevated Universal to become a market leader in a majority of territories. Prior to this role, he was Chairman of U.K. Operations and Regional Managing Director for Australia, New Zealand and the Nordic countries. Cunningham began his career with Universal in 1999 when the studio acquired Polygram, at which he had served as Managing Director of their U.K. home entertainment business and budget music labels. 

Before joining Universal, he held numerous roles in retail and distribution including serving on the Operating Board at Woolworths and as Commercial Director of Entertainment U.K., the largest entertainment software wholesaler-distributor in the world.

Cunningham currently serves on the Board of Directors for Universal’s joint ventures with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in Australia and the Nordics, as well as the industry’s Digital Entertainment Group.
